Rakher Upobash

Every year, thousands of Hindu devotees gather at the Shri Shri Lokenath Brahmachari Ashram in Barodi, Bangladesh, to observe Rakher Upobash, also known as Kartik Brati. The annual religious gathering is dedicated to Baba Lokenath Brahmachari, one of Bengal's most revered Hindu saints, whose teachings of devotion, compassion, and spiritual discipline continue to inspire generations of followers.

Throughout the night, devotees fast, pray, and light thousands of oil lamps, transforming the temple grounds into a landscape illuminated by faith. Many come seeking blessings for health, protection, and the well-being of their families, carrying personal hopes, gratitude, and prayers into a shared act of worship.

As darkness gives way to candlelight, individual acts of devotion merge into a collective spiritual experience. Faces illuminated by flickering flames, moments of silent prayer, and the gathering of thousands of worshippers reveal a tradition where ritual, memory, and community remain deeply intertwined.
